What is a Discovering the Disciplines Workshop?
A brisk hike on the Ancient paths of God's grace found in the Holy Scriptures (i.e., the infallible field manual for living God's abundant life)
The Discovering the Disciplines workshop ordinarily takes place on a Saturday beginning either at 8:30 a.m. or 9:00 a.m. and running to 2:30/3:30 p.m. [Note: we are open to conducting this workshop on two consecutive weeknights for two 2 1/2-hour sessions.]
An Interactive Workshop
Following an opening time of worship and orientation to the day's events, the participants learn about the Biblical dynamics for spiritual growth in the grace of Christ. The workshop engages the participants in a "hands on" experience with a journaling exercise and a Scripture memorization practice which follow very practical teaching
A Highly Motivating Workshop

With motivating illustrations and 26+ years of ministry experience in the isles of Guam and Micronesia, the presenter cuts through the legalism so often associated with the way we tend to think about the "disciplines" and invites participants to discover how the disciplines are truly grace-based. Many have remarked how the teaching has left them with not only the sense that "I can do this," but also of, "I want to do this ... from now on!"
A Selective Workshop
Given the restrictions of time and the capacity for human beings to stay seated beyond the stated period, the disciplines dealt with in depth are only a few in number. Primarily: journaling & scripture meditation, scripture memorization, accountability & mentoring, hearing God, and evangelism as a lifestyle & discipline.
A Place to Discover Helpful Tools
Participants in the workshop receive a professionally produced workshop syllabus that guides them through the day's events, provides important scripture references for later review and reflection. Space is provided in the syllabus for note taking and recording important insights gained through the day. The syllabus is provided at no additional cost, being covered by the registration fee.
Participants are also introduced to a very helpful spiritual training log, The Christian's Spiritual Training Journal©, which is available for purchase at the end of the workshop. Purchasing the journal is not required and everything learned may be effectively applied using a spiral notebook such as one could purchase at any office supply store for a cost of approximately $3.95. The Christian's Spiritual Training Journal© is $12.50 USD and is a very well laid out journal and training manual that integrates goal-setting and recording for all the basic disciplines. We think the CSTJournal is one of the best available tools for recording one's walk with God, preserving special insights coming from devotional exercises, encouraging service and learning to listen for God and acting on His leadings. At the end of a year period, the completed journal serves as a permanent record and legacy of God's work in your life and an important place to visit often for encouragement during times of doubt and struggle.

The 28 pp. soft-cover, workshop syllabus that accompanies the powerpoint presentation. Each participant receives a workshop syllabus as part of their registration.

These can also be ordered in quantity by churches, along with a copy of the powerpoint presentation, in the event that the pastor or other gifted teacher would like to present the workshop themselves. The syllabus costs $3.50 ea. plus S&H. The powerpoint presentation is presently $10.00 plus S&H. Orders must be arranged by separate e-mail to:     workshopmaterials

I am arranging to develop a dvd set of the workshop actually being presented in 2008. This multi-dvd set will be available for order, Lord willing, later in the New Year.
